1. Laem Phrom Thep (also known as Laem Chao) is known as one of the most beautiful sunset viewpoints in Thailand. It is located towards the south of Phuket Island, about 2 kilometers from Drawai Beach. You can watch a breathtaking sunset or take a 1 kilometer walk to the end of the cape, but be aware that the path is quite steep.

2. Khao Kaad Viewpoint is an extraordinary place where you are able to see a 360 degree panoramic view of Phuket Island. This viewpoint is located near Makaam Gulf on the way to Laem Panwa, and it is an ideal spot for taking being near the beautiful nature while absorbing the romantic atmosphere during a sunset.

3. Khao Rang Viewpoint is located in downtown Phuket, and is also a public park for people to rest and enjoy sunsets at. This viewpoint is also where the monument of Phraya Ratsadanupradit Mahiraphakdi is located. At this viewpoint, you will be able to see the Phuket city lights reflected across the sky as the sun sets.

4. Three Beaches Viewpoint is located near Naihaan Beach on the way to Kata Noi Beach. It is a unique viewpoint in that from it you can see the crescent moon shape of where three beaches meet, which are Kata Noi Beach, Kata Beach and Karon Beach. From this viewpoint you can see the sun set across all three beaches at the same time.

5. Gan Han Lom Viewpoint is located between Nai Haan Beach and Laem Phrom Thep. There is a large windmill at the top of the hill, hence the name of the viewpoint (“gan han lom” meants windmill in Thai). This viewpoint is not yet widely known amongst tourists, but it offers the same breathtaking view of the sunset rivaling that of Laem Phrom Thep. Moreover, it is not crowded with people, so you can quietly enjoy an intimate evening watching the sunset with your loved ones here.

We meet again in another issue of Phuket Sweet Travel Issue 15, and right now the Annual Vegetarian Festival is going on in Phuket. This widely celebrated festival lasts for a period of approximately 10 days all throughout Thailand, including in Phuket, during which several ceremonies are held. For those are travelling to Phuket during this time, we would like to give you several tips on how to properly choose and enjoy your vegetarian dishes during the festival.

1. The food should not contain any meat ingredients or any animal by-products, such as cow’s milk or chicken eggs.

2. The food should not be heavily condimented, such as being very spicy, very sweet or very salty.

3. The food should not contain these 5 types of vegetables with strong scents: onions, garlic, garlic chives, Chinese garlic, and tobacco.

For those of you who still want to enjoy your vegetarian food with the same flavor as normal food, you can add ingredients that do not contain any traces of meat, such as using tofu or protein instead of meat, using soy sauce instead of fish sauce, and using grounded white sesame instead of garlic, etc. Vegetarian food is not only beneficial for your health, but it can also help your body excrete waste and toxins and improve the functioning of your health, spleen, kidneys, liver, and lungs. 3. Nai Yang Beach: This beautiful beach is located in Sirinath National Park as well, and has a lot of shade from the pine trees that grow near the beach. 4. Mai Khaw Beach: This beach is located towards Northern Phuket, and has a very long shore, running all the way from Sai Kaew Beach to Nai Yang Beach. This beach is full of shade and nature, and is ideal for taking walks along and watching the sunset. However swimming and playing in the waters at this beach is not recommended.

5. Kamala Beach: This beach is very wide and offers a lot of nature and white sand. It is a beach that is not overly-crowded. There are many small hotels and restaurants in the area for tourists who prefer personal space and quietness.

6. Laem Gaa Beach: This beach is located towards Southern Phuket, and it is a beach that has many large rocks on the shore. It is suitable for having picnics and swimming, since the waters are shallow and cool. It is not too crowded.

9. Tom Kha Kai: Slightly-spicy curry broth with chicken, Galangal oil, lemon, mushrooms and chillies.

10. Panang Muu: A full-flavored dish with pork stir-fried in a red curry.

Since in this issue we have already talked about shopping, let’s also take a look at protecting the environment since nowadays we are faced with global warming problems. That is why we would like to tell you about seven ways to prevent global warming and care for the environment.

 

1. Reduce: We know that using excessive natural resources carelessly can cause a lot of garbage and waste that are not biodegradable. Therefore in order to help reduce global warming, we have to change our lifestyles by reducing and changing the products in our everyday life, such as reduce the usage of plastic bag or other forms of packaging that are difficult to biodegrade.  

 

2. Reuse: Before making up our minds on buying a certain product, try thinking about whether that product can be reused or not.  Not only will it help you save costs, but it will also reduce the usage of natural resources. We should always aim for buying reusable products or avoid buying products and packaging that can only be used once, such as using cloth bags instead of paper bags, using tablecloths instead of tissue paper, and using refillable products, etc.

 

3. Recycle: Products or items that cannot be reused can be recycled instead, such as glass bottles, paper, some metals, and plastic. We can also turn these items into new items by recycling them.

 

4. Repair: We can repair many items, and in doing so we will create a sense of attitude that repairing items is better than buying new ones. For instance, we can repair our air conditions and our cars. By repairing things, we can save on costs and as well reduce the usage of natural resources.

 

5. Refuse: We have to learn how to refuse products and items that harm our earth, such as plastic bags. There are also unexpected things that can harm our earth, such as imported food from faraway places. This is because transporting food from one place to another involves strict transportation and preservation process, and increases the amount of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere.

 

6. Return: We can give back to our Earth by planting trees to increase greenery in the world, or by conserving the amount of natural resources used. If it is necessary to use these natural resources, then we can also give back to the society and Earth by supporting activities that help preserve the environment.

 

7. Rethink: In order to successfully carry out the previously mentioned tips, we must first change the way we think and not give in to what the rest of the society is doing. We need to rethink our actions continuously and seriously, otherwise all the previously mentioned tips cannot be carried out.

We meet again in June’s Phuket Sweet Travel Magazin Issue Issue 11, and in this issue we have some useful knowledge that we’d like to share with our readers who love to travel, especially those who love to go the beach, to swim, and do outdoor activities. Travelling to Phuket involves hot weather and strong sun, therefore we should take care of ourselves and prepare ourselves properly before heading out into the sun so that we can have fun in the sun without ending up with red, peeling, or with darkened skin as a take-home souvenir.

 

First let’s get to know the different types and brands of creams that are out there on the market. Sun blocks have the ability to reflect UV rays, whereas sunscreens can absorb UV rays in a way that won’t harm our skin. Usually most creams have both of these characteristics. One thing that we always seen on a bottle of sunblock or sunscreen is the SPF number, which indicates how long the cream will be able to resist the sun’s rays before our skin turns red after applying it on. But this doesn’t always mean that we should look for the highest SPF number possible, because the chemicals in the cream that make this SPF number high can cause our skin to become irritated easier than creams with lower SPF numbers. That is why we should always choose an SPF number that is suitable to our needs and activities.

Going to the beach involves a lot of sun without any form of protection, so we should always use a cream that has a high SPF rate, usually from 30 to 50. If we are in the shade or if we only have to be in the sun for short periods of time, then it would be okay to choose a cream with SPF 15. However, this also depends on the type of skin that you have. Darker-skinned people can use lower SPFs than lighter-skinned people. And if you want to swim in the beach, then don’t forget to choose a waterproof sunscreen so that the cream won’t get rinsed off by the water. Waterproof qualities vary from brand to brand.

 

Using sunscreen correctly is very important and the sunscreen should be applied to the skin 15-30 minutes before heading out into the sun. After applied, sunscreen usually lasts around 80 minutes; therefore we should keep reapplying it every 1 to 2 hours. Aside from using sunscreen while swimming or playing on the beach, we can also protect ourselves from the sun with easy methods, such as staying the shade or using a towel, hat, and sunglasses to protect our skin and eyes. With these simple steps, we can easily protect our skin from the sun on our next trip to the beach!
